The LONG ISLAND SENIOR POPS ORCHESTRA

THE HISTORIC PROFILE of the SENIOR POPS

Over 30 years of making beautiful music!

The Senior Pops Orchestra of Long Island was established on September 12, 1979 when two local musicians formed and funded the group as a vehicle for senior citizen musicians to express their lifelong musical creativity, bringing entertainment and culture to an appreciative Long Island community.

Today, we retain our well-known "Senior Pops" name, but attract a much wider age range of musicians. But we continue to bring the same musical enjoyment to a faithful and growing audience.

Since its inception, our 60-member ensemble has always performed numerous free concerts annually, and has distinguished itself as a serious contributor to Long Island's thriving cultural scene.

Among the orchestra's achievements:

1981:  The Senior Pops performs at The White House, Washington, D.C. (by special invitation).

1982: The Senior Pops performs at Lincoln Center, New York, NY

1988-2010:  The Senior Pops performs regularly at many of Long Island's premiere venues:

Stony Brook University's Staller Center

The Tilles Center

Hofstra University's John Cranford Adams Playhouse

Eisenhower Park's Summer Concert Series

2010: The Senior Pops continues its great 16-year tradition of intergenerational concerts with the talented music students of Huntington High School.

And our mission hasn't changed:
As a non-profit, all volunteer INTER-GENERATIONAL orchestra, our mission is to offer free concerts of popular music, light classical, and show tunes to audiences in and around Long Island.  We proudly support our community of veterans, seniors, students, and music lovers of all ages. We invite you to attend all of our concerts...No tickets required! Just come and enjoy the music!
